Our goal is to create new healthcare technologies for Preventative, Personalized, Point-of-care Medicine. Our focus is on rapid saliva tests that move disease diagnostics from hospital to the users in community clinics, in the field and at home.


About Us


At Gaia Medical Institute ™,

labOur mission is the advancement of molecular physiology and noninvasive health monitoring. We focus on saliva diagnostics, development of rapid tests, and detection of proteomic biomarkers. Our primary research centers around the study of HIV/AIDS, hydration monitoring, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-concussional disorder.

Sarka Southern, PhD.

Founder, Scientific Director

Sarka O. Southern, Ph.D., is the Founder and Scientific Director of the Gaia Medical Institute ™ in La Jolla, CA. Previously, Dr. Southern pursued academic research in molecular biology, retrovirology and immunopathology at the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague, University of California, University of Minnesota and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Dr. Southern is the author of over 80 papers, professional book chapters and invited lectures, and holds issued and pending patents.
